The Tiny Art Throwdown is happening at Evenings on Elk
On Friday May 14, 2021 the Tiny Art Throwdown, a street art competition where artists reimagine the unappreciated features of our streetscape, is coming to Evenings on Elk in Elizabethton, TN. Create Appalachia is thrilled to be partnering with Project Move, Movers, Nash Art Studio, Birdhouse Studio, and Elizalliance for this event.
This is a temporary pop-up show where artists transform posts, windows, grates and cracks into something magical. Participants will create site specific installations that make people see these features in a new way. On May 14, artists will install their works during the day to be part of an art walk during Evenings on Elk at 6:00 PM. Each entry will be judged for original concept, creative interpretation of the site features, and just general “WOW factor.
First prize is $200! Second is $100, Third is $75, and there are three $25 Judges Choice Awards. The public will also have the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Award. Artists are already submitting entries for the Tiny Street Art Throwdown, but there is plenty of room for more.
Artists will select a spot in advance so they can work on ideas and fabricate parts before the event to allow for quick installation. Some of the spaces up for “artification” are posted on the Create Appalachia Facebook page, but not all of them, so when you register you will get a catalog of all of the available spots to choose from.
The fee for entering up to two pieces is $15.00. 3 or more can be entered for an additional $10. Artists must be 12 years old or older.
