In October, 2019, ETSU, in partnership with Create Appalachia (CA), and the Johnson City Development Authority (JCDA) was awarded an Appalachia Regional Commission (ARC) POWER grant of $728,000 to establish a micro-enterprise incubator and professional development center specializing in digital arts production in Johnson City, TN.
The “CAAT” will be located in one of Johnson City’s historic downtown buildings in the center of the downtown redevelopment district and within easy reach of the ETSU campus. It will provide entrepreneurs, businesses, and nonprofit organizations a state-of-the-art facility that includes professional work spaces, production studios, education spaces, and gathering spots supported by professional remote communication technology and hi-speed gigabyte internet.
This center will support the continued success of artists and makers working with digital technologies, particularly in the areas of animation, game design, 3D visualization, visual effects for cinema and video, virtual and augmented reality, web and interactive design, music, product design, 3D printing, e-commerce and social media marketing. We expect to open our doors next year, hopefully by the fall.
We will be having a public information meeting for creative professionals, business owners, arts organizations, and individuals seeking continuing education in entrepreneurship and digital media production in the winter of 2020. Watch for it!
