Our Giclee Print Lab
Local and affordable! Our Giclee Print Lab offers creatives the opportunity to create archival quality prints right here at our Kingsport Center for Art & Technology (KCAAT).
Great for creatives (we’re lookin’ at you, photographers and artists!) who want great savings on large format prints size 11” x14” and up. Our discounted rates are designed to help our members rise to the next level in selling high-quality prints of their art.
A couple of important points to keep in mind:
- We’re set up for large format printing only. If you need prints smaller than 11” x 14,” then our lab probably isn’t the best option for you. For smaller prints, you’ll find that online vendors can offer prices we can’t beat. Plus, you don’t have to do the work to trim your images!
At the moment, this service is only available to paid members. More details on why below.
Do you have something you want to print?
We’d love to hear about your project and provide an estimate! Complete our pre-order form and send it to katie@createappalachia.org. We’ll provide an estimate and also schedule an appointment to meet with you.
The sooner you contact us about your print job, the better! We need at least a week’s lead time before the date when you need your prints – and more lead time is better! We have a small staff, and we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Please allow at least 3 business days for us to respond to your initial request.
Rush orders with less than a week’s lead time may be accepted, but only if we can find a tech with the time to print. A rush order fee may also be incurred. If you already know what you want to print, please complete the pre-order form. One of our technicians will contact you with an estimate and arrange for a printing appointment.

Giclee Print Lab FAQs:
Yes. Right now, we have limited capacity, so our discounted rates are available only to paid members. We’ve calculated our prices carefully to benefit local creative entrepreneurs and artists. Here’s the great thing: most members will find that the cost of membership is more than covered by the savings on multiple print jobs over the course of a year. And don’t forget that membership also qualifies you for other member benefits, such as discounts on classes and other CA events!

Become certified as a Giclee Print Technician and save yourself a tech fee! Certification classes are available at Create Appalachia. Check our Arts@Work PRO class schedule for the next offering.
Absolutely! We have trained technicians who can run your job for you. This is little more expensive than doing it yourself, but still a very good value. (Our price, including tech assistance, is still set to beat most online vendors’ rates.) If you want a technician to print your job, just be sure to mark that option on the pre-order form.
We keep only archival roll paper in stock, not sheets. We carry:
- Epson Ultra Premium Luster 260 (satin finish photo paper)
- Somerset Velvet (100% rag art paper with a heavy watercolor surface)
- Exhibition Canvas in both satin and matte
Only in special cases and if there is enough demand for the type of paper you want to use. Remember that, even if we do order special paper, this will add to the length of time it takes to finish your print job.
We have multiple samples at the CAAT. Make an appointment to come take a look at them if you aren’t sure which one to order. Our techs can help you choose, so please ask!
We just don’t have the room—or the budget! As we grow, we may revisit this decision. But you are welcome to bring your own sheets.
Yes! If you want to save the most money printing at the CAAT, particularly on large prints, purchase your own paper and avoid the markup. Look for sales on paper for more savings! But remember these two points when you order:
- We can accommodate 10”- 44” rolls, and
- 11” x 14” is the smallest recommended sheet size.
Epson 9000 and Epson 7000 SureColor Printers, featuring archival inks and the ability to print images on papers up to 44” wide and (theoretically) up to 50’ long.
For smaller prints, online print vendors can provide a fast, inexpensive product with prices we just can’t beat, and even better prices if you watch for their frequent sales. And you don’t have to do the work to trim your images, which you would have to do with us. Due to the way we’ve set up our lab, large format allows us to give you the most cost benefit.
Ask if we can help. We have several technicians, but they work by appointment and have to schedule around other work. Rush jobs will depend upon immediate availability of a technician. Expect an upcharge for rush work that must be completed in less than a week.
Yes. We provide straight edges, knives, blades, and a cutter.
Printing services are prohibited from reproducing any materials that are the subject of, or which infringe upon, any patent, trademark, trade name, trade secret, copyright, right of publicity, moral right, or other intellectual property right of another person or entity. You are required to declare and warrant that you are the copyright owner, OR that you have been given written permission and license to reproduce the work.
By signing the release section of your order form, you indicate that you understand the copyright laws pertaining to the ownership and reproduction of artwork, and are aware of the penalties that may be assessed for illegally copying artwork without written permission of the copyright owner.
This is not required, but if you would like to have our technicians run additional prints of an approved proof at a later date, you can schedule to have reprints done without an appointment. All we’ll have to do is pull your file and proof from the archive.
For best results, use high resolution files that have been prepared for printing without a white margin. Low resolution files will not look good when enlarged. Preferred Formats are jpeg or .tiff.
If you don’t know how to edit your files for large format printing, send us what you have and we’ll let you know if it will work. If edits are needed, our techs can do the work and file prep for you. They’ll provide an estimate for that service.
