Here’s a recap of the short 2-day workshop we had October 24 – 25, 2015 at
Innovation Forge in Kingsport, TN.

Creature Design for Cinema and Theater
Featuring EMMY award-winning  Creature Designer Jordu Schell

For 2 days we worked under the direction of Jordu Schell to concept and create full-body creatures on live models in a hands-on experience in the spirit of ScyFy’s “Face-Off.” We learned to work with latex to sculpt body and facial features, and plastimorph to make teeth, nails, horns and other hard elements for our creatures. We also learned some makeup design and body painting basics. We had the help of a cadre of local specialists and models who volunteered their time to make this a fun and educational experience. Thanks Ron Case, Jr. of Quantum Ascension Studios and Aria Shepherd of Aria’s Done Designs for helping with costume construction. Thanks to Ren Allen for helping with makeup and body painting. Thanks also to our trooper models for enduring hours of latex and makeup application. Check out their pics below!

It  was a blast! In fact, it went so well that  we are bringing Jordu Schell back next summer for a 5-day Master Class in creature design, mold and mask-making, and theatrical makeup.
